VIDFEST - 28 in dog years
August 23rd, 2007 posted by kirstin
“Wifi?” the guys says to me motioning at my laptop. I nod and he gives me a thumbs up. Today I’m working in a cafe within walking distance from home. In an age of free wifi (how civilized!) and webmail we have increasing options on how and when to work. As members of the digital media community, I feel like we are fortunate to be on the forefront of such trends. And as a VIDFESTer, I feel especially looped in as it is part of my job description to source out the latest and greatest in the digital sphere.
With less than a month before VIDFEST kicks off, adrenaline levels are high and coffee is being consumed at alarming rates. VIDFEST is turning 4 and thus we’ve planned a four day celebration to show off all our new tricks. This year we have a new fall time slot and shiny new digs thanks to our partnership with the Vancouver International Film Festival. We’re also introducing the chosen by the people Popvox Awards, the games-a-rama Pitch ‘n’ Play, and two feature length screenings, including the incredibly cool and made-in-Vancouver Sanctuary.
The VIDFEST team has also grown. We have Lynda (for a little bit longer!) leading the troops, Jessica writing and web-ing, Kelly sourcing speakers far and wide, Dennis partnering internationally (he’s currently schmoozing in Shanghai), Adam publishing and publicizing, Rochelle reaching out to the community at large, Teresa balancing budgets, Phil filling in the blanks, and myself creatively directing all the action. We also continue to work the very talented Mod7 (web), TBWA\Vancouver (advertising) and Karyo Edelman (PR) folks.
Really looking forward to seeing all of our friends - both new and those that have achieved alumni status - at VIDFEST next month. Did I mention we’ll be Happy Hour-ing at the super swanky Opus Hotel? Cheers indeed.
