VIDFEST speaker on path to Oscars?
September 14th, 2007 posted by jessica
Douglas Gayeton, uber-cool Second Life super-star, and panelist at this year’s Vancouver International Digital Festival recently told us that his short film has got a bright life ahead of it. His animated short “My Second Life: The Video Diaries of Molotov Alva” was snapped up by HBO and has the distinction of being the first piece of machinima bought by a network and having the highest price paid for a piece of content that began on the web. The pic takes place entirely within metaverse Second Life and follows the adventures of Gayeton’s avatar, Molotov Alva, as he searches for the creator of Second Life.
HBO will be entering the film into the festival circuit and hoping to get it into the Oscars race for best animated short. Variety published an article about the purchase.
